DC Rebirth Preview

Every so often, comic books need to go through changes to keep things fresh for readers. Marvel just recently finished their Secret Wars story arc, which altered the Marvel multiverse by combining Earth-616 with Earth-1610. Similar to Marvel and Secret Wars, DC hopes that Rebirth will reinvigorate the DC universe and bring in new readers while, at the same time, exciting current readers.

Nerd(col)lab’s thoughts about DC Rebirth:

Jeremy’s Thoughts:

At first, I wasn’t sure if I was going to get excited for this new event. I lived through The New 52 and enjoyed it a lot. Just recently, I’ve become more invested with Marvel titles and plus, the creative teams that I really love are either moving to a new book or being split up (the Batgirl crew made me love Batgirl again and I’d follow Scott Snyder anywhere!).

But after watching the DC live streaming event from this year’s WonderCon, I’m actually excited to read some of the new stories. I’m always going to follow Hal Jordan (Green Lantern), no matter the creative team, but Super Sons, Green Lanterns, and Trinity look interesting. So those are an instant pull list for me.

But this reshuffling of creative teams and universe shakeup is a big one for me because this time around, I’m more of a current reader whereas during the New 52, I was mainly a new reader. So, Rebirth will be a big test for my love for DC and its iconic characters, especially since some characters are coming back (from death maybe?) and a title character is suppose to depart the land of the living! Whom, is the big question. But I’m right there with everyone, waiting for it to happen and see how the DC Universe is going to be reborn!

My Thoughts:

I’m pretty excited about the new content that Rebirth will bring and have added 18 of the titles mentioned above to my pull list. I’m a pretty bummed that Brenden Fletcher, Cameron Stewart, and Babs Tarr aren’t on Batgirl anymore and really sad that Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo won’t be teaming up on Batman again any time soon, but change is inevitable and both writing teams have vouched for the new teams stepping up to the plate. Despite my disappointment in the change of the creative teams on these two titles, I’ll look forward to the new takes on familiar characters and story arcs.

The comic I’m most excited to read is Francis Manapul and Clay Mann’s Trinity. Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato’s runs on the New 52 The Flash and Detective Comics is some of the best I’ve read in those series and I hope that Manapul continues his great writing and beautiful art in Trinity.
